Hobson Engineering was established by Mr Ron Hobson in 1935 at Alexandria. Although only having a small product range, the name became synonymous with precision and quality. The major lines were bicycle axles (no imported bicycles in those days!) and roller skates, with "ROLLERPLANE" being revered as the best skate available. The fact that Ron was the Australian roller skating champion using his own skates of course helped the cause.

During World War II the plant was operating 24 hours a day, producing aircraft components and boasting one of the few approved aeronautical inspection departments.

Threadrolling was a relatively new technology which held great potential. Brooker, of the coined phrase "BROOKER-ROD", started producing fully threaded rod (ALL THREAD) just after the war. Mr Ron Hobson saw the vast potential applications of this product, and began production soon after. Through quality and innovation, it only took a few years until HOBSON PRECISION ALL THREAD totally replaced its predecessor.

Stud bolting was the next major product line to be added. GKN dominated the market, threadcutting its product which was a totally unsuitable alternative to the new process of threadrolling! After sources of the high grade steel were found, it only took a few years until Hobson Engineering was dominating the market building a reputation of dependable quality and service.

Ron's son Peter joined the business in 1987 after completing an Industrial Engineering degree at the University of NSW. The company began shifting its focus to distribution applying a tradition of innovation in all operational matters. Today, Hobson is regarded as much for its innovation, warehousing and distribution as it always has been for superior quality and dependable service.

Hobson Engineering has expanded significantly from its early roots in a local based Sydney manufacturing operation to now being the largest fastener company in its chosen product range in Australia. This position has been gained through building strong partnerships with suppliers and customers. Through its 21,000 sq metres of warehouse space over its Australian wide network, Hobson continues to focus on the important things that formed its strong foundations, quality, innovation and dependability.
